Amazing video and a question

August 10, 2011 By: larry Category: Big Business, Misc, My opinion, points to ponder

Here is the video…

The man in the video is Aged 96 and still smokes a pipe.
My grandmother aged 92 still dipped Garretts snuff, as did most all of her friends/relation whom I also knew in that age bracket.
They all ate much more “unhealthy” by today’s standards, yet they died from the same causes we die from today only later in life (for the most part).

My guess as to why the above is true would be that there have been more advances in the addition of harmful chemicals for financial gain by “big business”, than beneficial research by government agencies.

Is that a fair statement?

Congressional Reform

July 17, 2011 By: larry Category: Big Business, current events, politics, the public trough

avatarCongressional Reform Act of 2011

1. No Tenure / No Pension.
A Congressman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they are out of office.
2. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security.
All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately.
All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people, It may not be used for any other purpose.
3.Congress can purchase their own retirement plan , just as all Americans do.
4. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise.
Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.
5.Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people.
6.Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.
7. All contracts with past and present Congressmen are void effective 1/1/12.
The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen. Congressmen made all these contracts for themselves. Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career.. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s), then go home and back to work.

facebook not really freindly

It stands to reason that the longer you are on Facebook, the happier advertisers will be.

Advertisers love anything that keeps users on Facebook for longer and that is something Facebook has been brilliant at – keeping people engaged with the platform for increasingly longer periods of time.
- Susan Etlinger of the Altimeter Group.

So…is facebook a social networking site or a revenue generating site for advertisers?

  • Facebook is a business.
  • Their product is your personal information, internet browsing habits and time, Social Networking is just a convenient way to gather it.

100-Year-Old Walmart Greeter

December 01, 2010 By: larry Category: Big Business, current events

The term “greeter” implies that the person is in place to greet customers coming into the store, not check them as they go out.
I would question why Walmart used a lady, especially an elderly person, acting as a greeter to provide security….
A freind gave this opinion on facebook

Nate Koch:
“There was a time when Walmart tried to be an asset to the towns it was set up in. They employed the elderly and special needs citizens and provided more products at better prices as well as promoting American values….now they sell they cheapest China made junk the can buy. The greeter is a symbol of what once was. Too bad people have lost respect for that too.”

In my opinion, Sam Walton is turning over in his grave.

Why some and not others?

November 06, 2010 By: larry Category: Big Business, emails, My opinion, pet peeves, stupid spam, tongue in cheek

why-some-and-not-others

A lame title I know, I can’t think of a better one…
I would imagine that a male enhancement drug or sexual arrousal drug such as the ones mentioned in the spam ads that are sent to me hundreds of times daily are not cheap…They must cost at least nearly as much as Chantix. Yet the emails say I can get them FREE!
Two years ago I tried to get Chantix from medicare (whatever card they gave me at the time), after all isn’t smoking a medical problem for pete’s sake???
After beau coup dealings and many jumps through numerous hoops, this last spring, I finally got a free prescription of Chantix…The starter packThat’s all, just the starter pack!
Aw what is the point?

Day 4 of my second round

March 03, 2010 By: larry Category: Big Business, ramblins, seriously speaking

About a week later I’m on day four of my latest bout with the tobacco companies… I know the Chantix will work this time the only question I have is
will it work IN time?

I don’t know exactly what is causing this congestion in my lungs, could be this environment (the Northwoods) and the dampness in the air, could be what I eat, most likely is a combination of all of that coupled with the emphysema I have from smoking for so long.

What I am sure of, is that I will not last another winter being able to move around without the use of an oxygen bottle, if I continue smoking.
I also wonder if they are correct when they tell me once you quit, your lungs get better.

I hope so…

Approved!

February 26, 2010 By: larry Category: Big Business, rants, the public trough

After that pre-mentioned denial letter from Healthnet
I took the papers into the Doctors office just to show them what was going on. avatar image
I left the letter with the receptionist and sat down to wait for the wife to get done with her appointment.

About a half hour later, while outside in the truck (smoking), the Nurse practitioner found me and showed me the latest letter they had just got faxed to them, is was an approval for the Chantix!..
A huge sigh of relief later, I thanked her again for everything they had been doing on this since April 2009!.

After I got home I checked the mail and lo and behold…another letter from Health net telling me I’m now approved…WHAT???

Don’t get me wrong dear reader, I will start the Chantix and quit smoking but one can only wonder at the futility of trying to get drugs from this outfit…I mean what if it had been life and death?? well actually it is…

And further, what if they had not given me the Chantix? would they then cover the oxygen in a few months..?
